On top of this the fort is strategically placed in the mountains so the views are magnificent. This covers the rise of Mussolini through Middle East, the invasion of Italy by the allies, the capture of Mussolini and Italians being occupied by the Germans to end of WW2. Those that are interested in WW2 there is even more stuff from beginning to end of WW2. Those interested in WW1 and the Italian fight against German and Austria/Hungarian troops can see all the equipment. Some detailed models and panorama’s how the fort would have worked. Lots of Artillery pieces from cannon’s to WW2 guns. They have virtually restored most of the garrison’s quarters and have a fine collection of manakins in period uniforms. It was built around the same time as the Tenby Artillery fortress but had been in constant use until after WW2. It was build around the time of Napoleon III and was to guard against the French “their southern boarder is only kilometres away. I wasn’t expecting much, so I was absolutely thrilled to see how much is in this museum. Now you can get a bit of the way by road if you hire a car, but we decided to walk up the paths leading up to it, the first bit is a bit steep but this soon becomes more flat as you near the fort. Our local friend suggested this Museum of Artillery, being an ex artillery soldier myself this seemed a good place to go. This time we came in early autumn and was looking at things to do and places to walk. We have been to Bardonecchia 3 times before but that was in the skiing season.
